Scrappys is a mission-driven company addressing the growing issue of textile waste, which amounts to 1.92 million tonnes annually. The company offers a sustainable solution by allowing individuals to sell or donate fabric and clothing scraps, which are then repurposed into materials for DIY projects and handmade stuffed animals. These fabric scraps are sent to crafters who use provided patterns to create stuffed bears, which are donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital—blending environmental responsibility with charitable giving.
In addition to supporting donations, Scrappys also sells fabric scrap "lots" to quilters, sewists, and DIY enthusiasts, promoting creative reuse and reducing landfill waste. By turning discarded fabric into valuable resources, Scrappys encourages sustainability within the crafting community and offers an eco-friendly way for individuals to support both the planet and a meaningful cause.
Scrappys was my senior graphic design project focused on creating a sustainable solution to the growing problem of textile waste. I developed Scrappys as a fictional company that collects unwanted fabric and clothing scraps and gives them a second life through DIY projects and handmade stuffed animals. The project combined branding, packaging, print, and digital design to create a cohesive and approachable brand identity.
As the graphic designer, I developed the Scrappys brand identity, including the logo, color palette, typography, and overall visual style. I also designed a subscription box, donation box, website, promotional poster, and sewing pattern to support the brand and communicate how the program works. A major part of the concept was encouraging crafters to use donated fabric scraps to create stuffed bears that could then be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The project allowed me to combine my interests in design, sustainability, and sewing while creating a brand centered around the idea of “Turn Scraps Into Smiles.”
